Will we see more budget airlines in Europe?

For the past 10 years, we have seen an increase in low cost budget airlines in Europe, that have attempted to undercut the market of the established airlines. Many of these have attempted expand into long haul budget airlines, but many of these have failed. Despite this, their continent-oriented competitors have gone from strength to strength. But does this mean that we will see more of them in the future? I doubt this very much. It is unlikely that new budget airlines would be able to offer such low prices, as the current semi-established airlines do, and stay solvent at the same time. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Why do I believe that we have seen the end of new budget airlines in Europe? The short answer is: Money. Currently, the largest Europe...

What is the language used by Air Traffic Control (ATC)? 5 main languages of the ATC…

Air Traffic Control (ATC) is the universal means of communication between pilots and the airports which they are using. But what is the language used by Air Traffic Control? By that, we mean, which of the many languages used throughout the world, are used by air traffic controllers? The language used by Air Traffic Control is quite simple: whichever the pilot chooses to use. Normally this is between English and whatever the language is of the place that they are flying to/from. Although English is the only official language. Take this for instance, an American pilot coming in to land at Paris Charles de Gaulle, would instigate the conversation in whichever language he was most comfortable using, whether that was French or English. What will happen to the retired A380s?

In September, Air France announced that they would be retiring their A380s. When the A380s are retired from July 2020 onwards. But what will happen to these retired A380s? In September, we covered the A380 in our Aircraft Digest series. In that article we talked about how Air France was planning to retire its A380 fleet. As of yet, there is no clear path that could be taken in regards to the future of retired A380s. What will likely happen to the retired A380s? A380 private jet, this is a likely outcome, simply due to the space that the A380 has. The 747 has become a staple of business aviation, just as, say, the G650 has. The A380 has already made for a great private jet, indeed one of the most luxurious in the world! I could quite easily see that the retired A380s could become priva...

What is the future of aviation? Aviation in 10 years…

We have had aviation for over 100, since the Wright Brothers first flew in 1903, but what about the future of aviation? What can we expect of aviation in the next 10 years or so?  The future of aviation can really be broken down into 5 key points:  Environmental  Speed Efficiency  Size The death of the Hub and Spoke theory  What is the future of aviation environmentally? Aviation has grown exponentially in the last 10 years, but the next 10 years will be the most significant for the industry.  Aviation is currently the main focus of environmental activist groups. They believe that not enough is being done to curb the amount of CO2 being pumped into the atmosphere by our aircraft. This is something that they believe has to change now.  They propose that regional ...

Should you fly private?

We have covered many private jets on IAHQ recently, including the G650, Lineage 1000 and AS2, but never whether you should fly private. We may be fond of private and business jets, but we have never shared our opinion as to whether flying private is a good idea or not.  It doesn't matter whether you're a multibillionaire businessman, celebrity, or just a regular joe, you've probably wished to take to the sky in something more... luxurious.  (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Reasons to fly private  It's often quicker than flying commercially. Most private jets fly at 0.90 Mach or faster (on average for newer models), whereas your typical 747, flies at 0.85 Mach. This may not seem like a lot on the surface, but it can mean the difference of an hour on long h...

Boom Overture: luxury business aviation and Concorde 2.0?

On Wednesday, we covered the Aerion AS2, nicknamed "the son of Concorde", but the Boom Overture is truly the son of Concorde.  The Boom Overture is a new supersonic aircraft that will soon be flying in our skies. Just like the Concorde, and unlike the AS2, the Overture will be used as a long haul jet for businessmen going to meetings across the world.  According to Esquire and Boom's website, the Boom will have 55-75 seats. According to Boom's website, the Overture will have the ability to cross the Atlantic, JFK to Heathrow in 3 hours, 15 minutes.  (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Who will fly the Boom Overture? Aerion AS2: The son of Concorde

When I was a child, the fastest commercial aircraft available was the Concorde, in 2003, Concorde was retired. Since then, supersonic passenger transport has been something of the past and of sci-fi novels. But, the passion for supersonic passenger aviation, has not died down, it has merely simmered, waiting to be reignited. Now, we have seen the re-ignition- two companies, Boom and Aerion, are in the process of developing their own supersonic passenger aircraft. We will cover Boom in the future, for today is Aerion's turn, with their Aerion AS2 jet. What is the Aerion AS2? The Aerion AS2 will be the successor to the Concorde, however there are a few main changes from it's father. The Aerion AS2 will have 3 turbofan engines that propell the aircraft to speeds of 1.4 Mach according to ...

Why have low cost long-haul airlines gone under in the last 5 years?

Airlines going under isn’t a new thing, since the first airlines started, some airlines have gone under. But this phenomenon of low cost long-haul airlines going under has been exasperated in the past 5 years. So, why have low cost long-haul airlines gone under in the last 5 years? Most of the time, airlines have gone under due to poor management of finances, but the past 5 years have proven different. Whilst poor financial management may have been a factor, the main issue is sustainability.  Most of the airlines that have gone under have been low cost long-haul airlines. These m are not usually your typical low cost airlines like Ryanair or EasyJet, but are usually low cost and long-haul airlines. Think along the lines of Wow Air, Thomas Cook and Primera Air- all of these had the same...

How Gulfstream will conquer the business aviation market in the next 10 years

Last week, Gulfstream unveiled their newest business jet- the G700 at the NBAA in Las Vegas. But the manufacturer has been slowly turning into a titan of the business aviation market. But how has it got like this? First we need to provide a little bit of insight into how the manufacturer got started, and mainly the last 10 years, as well as the next. How did Gulfstream start out? The company that would later go on to become Gulfstream, started out as a division of Grumman Aerospace. It was started because Grumman, mainly a military aviation company, noticed a lack of aircraft manufacturers in the business aviation market. Grumman started by making a small business jet to test whether the market was safe for them to enter. The aircraft that Grumman produced was a twin turb...

G650 vs G700- Who would win?

At the beginning of the week, Gulfstream announced their new G700 business jet. This has led to many businessmen to ask the question “G650 vs G700?” Which is best for me?  G650 vs G700? G650 The G650 was the flagship aircraft of the Gulfstream company. The G650 has a range of 6,997.8nm, combined with a cruising speed of 0.925 Mach.  The G650 comes with many luxuries as standard, including a full bar, a full kitchen, a variety of entertainment features (including high speed internet), a TV set, and satellite telephones.
