Does airline consolidation make sense in the 21st Century?

The first part of the 21st century has been a turbulent time for the aviation industry. The past twenty years have seen it all, from more airline consolidation, to major disasters, to more bankruptcies. The former is naturally quite a worrying prospect for some, but how dangerous is it really? Is it even dangerous? And when does airline consolidation make sense? (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Many people are worried by the rise of the three major airline alliances- Star Alliance, Oneworld and SkyTeam, which aren't owned by any one individual or company. So the prospect of many smaller airlines banding together to become one large airline, or several larger airlines coming together to become one, is a scary prospect. In the 21st Century, some a...

The true effects of Brexit on aviation revealed…

Since the controversial vote in 2016, many companies and industries have questioned their future in a post-Brexit world. The aviation industry is no different. Brexit affects every corner of the aviation industry imaginable, from airlines and aircraft manufacturers, to small regional airports in the US! But it is only now that we are beginning to see the true effects of Brexit on aviation. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Brexit was a vote on whether or not the UK wanted to leave the EU or not. The result of the vote showed (by a slim majority) that the UK wanted to leave the EU. This has had, and will continue to have an impact on industries all over the world, not just in Europe. Since the vote, many people have begun to question whether Brexit...

Airbus A350 vs Boeing 787

Since the release of both the Airbus A350 and Boeing 787, there has been one burning question: "Who would win? Airbus A350 vs Boeing 787?" and has lead airlines to ask themselves "Which one is best for what we need?" Because, both do the same job* or do they? Whilst the A350 and 787 are both built for long distance, they are both serving wildly different markets. The question of "Airbus A350 vs Boeing 787?" comes down to metrics rather than how the two aircraft compete with one another. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); The question of "Airbus A350 vs Boeing 787?" also comes down to company allegiances rather than performance. We will never truly know the answer to"Airbus A350 vs Boeing 787?" as the two aircraft do not serve on the same routes...

Why do aircraft manufacturers do joint aircraft ventures?

Sometimes, two or more aircraft manufacturers can't make the best aircraft all on their own. Instead of abandoning the project, they partner with another aircraft manufacturer to do joint aircraft ventures. But why not just do it alone? For many, they are skeptical of joint aircraft ventures. Often, you see massive aircraft manufacturers like Boeing or Airbus, partnering with a smaller, more regional aircraft producer to create an aircraft. The best examples of these types of aircraft are the Eurofighter Typhoon and the A220. The real effects of flight shaming revealed

Over the past few years, there has been a growing concern over how we can protect our planet. This has spawned a completely eco-friendly frenzy. The figurehead of this movement is the 17-year old Swedish, Greta Thungberg. She has made it her number one priority to fix climate change, and one of her biggest targets is the aviation industry, through something called flight shaming. What is flight shaming? Flight shaming is where people, mainly celebrities and public figures, are attacked on social media (and in the media) for taking a flight in a private jet. Activists believe that private jets should be banned, alongside business and first classes on commercial airliners. They believe that an all-economy configuration, as seen in many low cost European carriers, is the way forward. Thi...

How does an aircraft fail to be airworthy?

If you are a follower of this site, and regularly read the comments, you might remember a comment from a few months ago talking about how this man's aircraft (Cessna Citation Mustang) had been considered unairworthy. I too sat there and thought "How does this happen, how exactly does an aircraft fail to be airworthy?" So I reached out to the commenter, who's called Gary, and I asked him if he could explain this to me. I have owned and flown countless aircraft over the years, and my aircraft have always passed their 4 year inspections. Now, I am not an aircraft technician, so I don't know the exact rules and regulations. I just pay a technician to come to the airport, inspect my aircraft, and tell me if it has passed or failed. So, Gary and I talked about his old Cessna Citation Mustang....

Big plane vs small plane- why do some pilots prefer one over the other?

What are the reasons why there is even an argument of 'big plane vs small plane?' And, which is the most popular opinion? As with most things, the argument of 'big plane vs small plane' boils down to personal preference. Some pilots prefer the speed of a big plane, or the maneuverability of a small plane.  (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Big plane vs small plane- Reasons pilots prefer big planes They're easier to handle in turbulence, it well known that aircraft, no matter the size, suffer from turbulence when flying.
