Air Traffic Control (ATC) is the universal means of communication between pilots and the airports which they are using. But what is the language used by Air Traffic Control? By that, we mean, which of the many languages used throughout the world, are used by air traffic controllers? The language used by Air Traffic Control is quite simple: whichever the pilot chooses to use. Normally this is between English and whatever the language is of the place that they are flying to/from. Although English is the only official language. Take this for instance, an American pilot coming in to land at Paris Charles de Gaulle, would instigate the conversation in whichever language he was most comfortable using, whether that was French or English. In September, Air France announced that they would be retiring their A380s. When the A380s are retired from July 2020 onwards. But what will happen to these retired A380s? In September, we covered the A380 in our Aircraft Digest series. In that article we talked about how Air France was planning to retire its A380 fleet. As of yet, there is no clear path that could be taken in regards to the future of retired A380s. What will likely happen to the retired A380s? A380: ‘SuperJumbo’

A few weeks ago we talked about the Boeing 747. This week, it’s their rivals turn... with Air France announcing that all of their A380 will be retired by 2022.  The 747 is well known for its nickname ‘Queen of the Skies’ or the ‘Jumbo Jet’. But the A380 is much bigger than the 747, hence it was dubbed the ‘Superjumbo’ by the media. Airbus built the A380 as direct competition to the Boeing 747 monopoly.
