Airbus vs Boeing: Who is truly superior?

Since Boeing's acquisition of McDonnell Douglas in 1995, there have been two major aircraft manufacturers: Airbus and Boeing. Since then, almost everyone has been involved in an Airbus vs Boeing debate at some point. But which is the truly superior aircraft manufacturer? My aim will be to come up with two answers to the question. Which one do pilots prefer more? Which do av geeks (people who like aviation) like? And which do passengers prefer more? Naturally, with a topic like this one, there is no clear cut answer, and the answer I give is purely based on my own experiences, and a general consensus from other airline pilots and frequent flyers I know. But before we can get into which is truly the best, we need to know the history, products and the reasons people think one is...

Does airline consolidation make sense in the 21st Century?

The first part of the 21st century has been a turbulent time for the aviation industry. The past twenty years have seen it all, from more airline consolidation, to major disasters, to more bankruptcies. The former is naturally quite a worrying prospect for some, but how dangerous is it really? Is it even dangerous? And when does airline consolidation make sense? (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Many people are worried by the rise of the three major airline alliances- Star Alliance, Oneworld and SkyTeam, which aren't owned by any one individual or company. So the prospect of many smaller airlines banding together to become one large airline, or several larger airlines coming together to become one, is a scary prospect. In the 21st Century, some a...

You've probably kept up with the latest stats, whether on the number of people affected, or the number of people who have passed  from it. The coronavirus is affecting each industry, in its own little way. Some industries are thriving, others are collapsing, so how is the aviation industry fairing? The coronavirus is hitting each industry in different ways. The true effects of Brexit on aviation revealed…

Since the controversial vote in 2016, many companies and industries have questioned their future in a post-Brexit world. The aviation industry is no different. Brexit affects every corner of the aviation industry imaginable, from airlines and aircraft manufacturers, to small regional airports in the US! But it is only now that we are beginning to see the true effects of Brexit on aviation. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Brexit was a vote on whether or not the UK wanted to leave the EU or not. The result of the vote showed (by a slim majority) that the UK wanted to leave the EU. This has had, and will continue to have an impact on industries all over the world, not just in Europe. Since the vote, many people have begun to question whether Brexit...

Chances are, you've never heard of any airline alliances, yet they are the strongest factor in the airline industry to date! These possibilities include code sharing, sharing departure lounges, cross-airline air miles systems, more efficient transfers between one or more airlines in the alliance, and more! There are literally hundreds of airline alliances, some spanning just a few airlines, trying to conquer the a certain part of the globe, others feature many airlines, trying to conquer the world. ...

Why do aircraft manufacturers do joint aircraft ventures?

Sometimes, two or more aircraft manufacturers can't make the best aircraft all on their own. Instead of abandoning the project, they partner with another aircraft manufacturer to do joint aircraft ventures. But why not just do it alone? For many, they are skeptical of joint aircraft ventures. Often, you see massive aircraft manufacturers like Boeing or Airbus, partnering with a smaller, more regional aircraft producer to create an aircraft. The best examples of these types of aircraft are the Eurofighter Typhoon and the A220. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Reasons why joint aircraft ventures make sense There are many reasons why an aircraft manufacturer may want to enter into a joint aircraft venture, these include: Better technology Take the Eurofi...

How does an aircraft fail to be airworthy?

If you are a follower of this site, and regularly read the comments, you might remember a comment from a few months ago talking about how this man's aircraft (Cessna Citation Mustang) had been considered unairworthy. I too sat there and thought "How does this happen, how exactly does an aircraft fail to be airworthy?" So I reached out to the commenter, who's called Gary, and I asked him if he could explain this to me. I have owned and flown countless aircraft over the years, and my aircraft have always passed their 4 year inspections. Now, I am not an aircraft technician, so I don't know the exact rules and regulations. I just pay a technician to come to the airport, inspect my aircraft, and tell me if it has passed or failed. So, Gary and I talked about his old Cessna Citation Mustang....

Flying day vs night: Which do pilots prefer?

Each pilot is different, but there are only two sets of pilots for at least one question- "Flying day vs night: which do you prefer?" There is a lot of debate between pilots, as to which is better, flying during the day or flying during the night. As a general rule, most pilots prefer flying during the day, as this allows for easier (and safer) flying. When a pilot is flying during the day, they have more visibility (naturally), and thus rely more on their eyes and their knowledge of the aircraft, rather than relying on the avionics and computers to guide them. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Why do pilots prefer flying day vs night? Easier to see the runway, you probably don't think of this when you are traveling, but seeing the runway is one of the m...
