Since the beginning of business jets, some have been more expensive than others. But today we want to know which are the most expensive private jets that you can buy today!
A while ago, we covered the cheapest business jets. This got me thinking, if I were a multibillionaire or a multibillion dollar corporation who wanted to impress people, which are the business jets that would do that?
17. Gulfstream G550 – $42.8 Million
The Gulfstream G550 is the cheapest private jet on this list- not that $42.8 million isn’t a lot, it’s just less than the other jets in this article. However, that does not mean that the G550 is any less luxurious.
The G550 is a lengthened version of the G500 and a shorter (and older) version of the G600. Just as with the G500 and G600, the G550 is supposed to be at the height of luxury.
As such, Gulfstream designed the G550 to have a bedroom, dining room, entertainment area, multiple lavatories and a galley. However, what sells the G550 is its cost per hour, which is lower than other, more expensive business jets.
16. Bombardier Global 5000 – $50.4 Million
The Global 5000 is one of the oldest aircraft on this list. However, the Global 5000 is one of the most expensive private jets you could ever buy! Despite newer models replacing it the Global 5000 is still quite popular among millionaires and corporations.
The Global 5000 has a list price of $50.4 million. However, you can buy a used Global 5000 for around $10 million. For the price, the Global 5000 is equipped with a large dining area, bedroom, lavatory, galley and office area.
However, what truly sells the Global 5000 is its range, size and how economical it is. When compared to its Embraer and Gulfstream counterparts, the Global 5000 is larger, faster, with a longer range at a cheaper price!
15. Embraer Lineage 1000E – $53 Million
The Lineage 1000E is a variant of the E-190 airliner made by Embraer. Unlike the E-190 (which alos has its own Embraer business jet version) the Lineage is only used as a private jet.
As with their other business jets, Embraer designed the Lineage to appeal to Fortune 500 companies as well as millionaires and billionaires. To do this, the Lineage is equipped with many amenities that business and businessmen need.
The Lineage 1000E has a large conference area that can double as a dining area. Embraer also gave the option for a bed to be installed or a divan that can be turned into a bed. The Lineage also has a large galley for an aircraft its size!
14. Dassault Falcon 8X – $59.3 Million
Dassault are known for having entered the private jet industry very early on, making one of the first business jets. They are well known for making high-end business jets that are some of the most expensive private jets on the market.
The Falcon 8X is no exception. The Falcon 8X is one of the most expensive business jets you could buy. It is equipped with an entertainment area, galley, bedroom, multiple lavatories and a specialized dining area.
However, the Falcon 8X’s performance is what truly sells the Falcon. The Falcon is one of the fastest and most fuel efficient private jets. This, combined with its luxury configuration, gives the Falcon its high price tag.
13. Gulfstream G650ER – $66.5 Million
When it comes to the most expensive private jets, my first thought went to the G650ER. Despite the fact that the G700 will one day compete with the G650ER, it has not been put in production yet.
As such, the G650ER is Gulfstream’s flagship aircraft, with the most expensive price tag. Mostly, the price tag is down to the exquisite interior design of the aircraft and the high quality design that makes the aircraft.
To many, owning a Gulfstream is like owning a Rolls-Royce, and Gulftsream knows this. As such, the latest Gulfstreams are always at the height of luxury, with the latest technology both in the cabin and on the aircraft itself.
12. Bombardier Global 7000 – $73 Million
The Global 5000’s younger, bigger, fastest, more efficient and more expensive brother, the Global 7000 too is one of the most expensive business jets on the planet.
Bombardier took what it learned with the Global 5000 to make the Global 7000 much more luxurious. The result has been that the Global 7000 has far more (and much better!) amenities.
These amenities include: longer cabin, wider cabin, larger galley, larger entertainment areas, larger bed, larger lavatories, larger dining areas and larger conference areas.
11. Boeing 737 MAX BBJ – $91.2 Million – $107.9 Million
Despite the 737 MAX’s grounding last March, the MAX BBJ is one of the most expensive private jets you could buy. Naturally, with the MAX’s relative newness and its high profile grounding, not many people operate the MAX BBJ.
With that being said, when the MAX returns to service and the MAX BBJ that comes along with it, it will be one of the most luxurious business jets on the planet. Plus, Boeing had to use the 737 MAX BBJ to compete with the ACJ320!
The MAX BBJ is just a private version of the 737 MAX. However, it is equipped to fly both long and short range routes. The MAX BBJ is equipped with lavatories, conference rooms, bedrooms, entertainment areas and a galley.
10. Boeing 757 – $100 Million
Politics aside, Donald Trump’s private jet is quite amazing! Originally, Trump’s 757-200 (nicknamed “Trump Force One” during the 2016 presidential election) was a passenger airliner for Sterling Airlines, and later for TAESA.
However, it was bought by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen in 1995. In 2011, Paul Allen sold the 757 to Donald Trump, who gave it the now iconic livery and an all new interior, to suit the “Trump” brand.
As with many of Trump’s ventures, the 757 had to be the best of the best. As such, the 757 is equipped with multiple lavatories, conference rooms, galleys and a shower. Not to mention everything being plated in gold!
9. Airbus ACJ319 – $105 Million
Airbus’ most successful Airbus Corporate Jets (ACJ) has been the ACJ319. Designed based on the successful Airbus A319 (a derivative of the A320), the ACJ319 too has proven to be successful.
This is mostly down to the ACJ319’s costly, yet “affordable” price and its many amenities. The result has been that air charter companies, air forces from countries like Germany and large businesses like UB Group and Reliance Industries.
Just as with other ACJs, the ACJ319 is equipped with a double bed, conference room, large entertainment area, dining area and one of the largest aircraft galleys I have ever seen!
8. Airbus ACJ320 – $115 Million
The larger variant of the ACJ319, the ACJ320 is also one of the most expensive private jets on the planet! In essence, the ACJ319 and ACJ320 are the same aircraft, with the only differences being in range, price and size.
The ACJ320 actually has a lower range than the ACJ319. However, the ACJ320 does allow for more people to sit, work and relax in the ACJ320 than the ACJ319, mostly thanks to the ACJ320’s longer length.
Similarly to the ACJ319, the ACJ320 is equipped to support a major corporation and/or billionaire. To do this, the ACJ320 is equipped with a large conference room, dining area, entertainment area, galley and bedrooms.
7. Boeing 767-33A (ER) – $150 Million
The richest man in Israel, and owner of Chelsea FC, Roman Abramovich owns one of the most expensive private jets in the world. His business jet is a converted 767 airliner which is nicknamed “The Bandit”.
Originally, “The Bandit” was originally ordered by Hawaiian Airlines. However, they cancelled their order after “The Bandit” had been built, Abramovich then bought the aircraft from Boeing and refitted it to his liking.
This refitting saw the 767 be equipped with several lavatories with showers, a 30-seat dining room, a large master bedroom, a large living room and a conference room. The Bandit also has the same air missile avoidance system as Air Force One.
6. Boeing 787-8 BBJ – $224 Million
Nicknamed the “DreamJet” (because the 787 is nicknamed the “Dreamliner”), Boeing decided to make a BBJ variant of their 787 aircraft. There are only a few 787 BBJs in service, they are magnificent!
As with Boeing’s other BBJ aircraft, the 787 BBJ is just a 787 airliner with a custom interior. The 787 BBJ has become a favorite of air charter companies in particular, however, there is one in the hands of a private person.
The 787 BBJ is often cited as one of the most luxurious aircraft. This is mostly down to almost complete design control for the buyer. As such, 787 BBJs often have bedrooms, galleys, entertainment rooms, conference rooms and large dining areas.
5. Boeing 747-430 – $233 Million
Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal of Saudi Arabia is the most famous of many people who operate their own 747 as a business jet. Al-Waleed’s, is worth a a staggering $233 million by most estimates.
Just as with Al-Waleed’s other aircraft, including his Hawker Siddeley 125, A321 and A380, his 747 is at the height of luxury. His 747 has a similar layout to his A380 in many ways- they were designed by the same person after all.
His 747 is equipped with several luxury features such as: a 14-person dining room, a “Throne”, a conference rooms, several bedrooms and a large entertainment room.
4. Airbus A340-300 – $425 Million
Alisher Usmanov, the richest man in Russia, has chosen an A340-300 to be his business jet of choice. Despite the A340’s commercial failure, it has made a great business jet, both for Mr. Usmanov and for the Sultan of Brunei (who owns an A340-200).
Mr. Usmanov’s A340 is valued at a massive $425 million, making it one of the most expensive private jets ever! If he were to ever sell his aircraft, he would certainly get a lot of money for it!
Mr Usmanov tries to keep himself out of the public light. As such, the inside of Mr. Usmanov’s A340-300 is relatively unknown. What we do know, however, is that the A340-300 is equipped with a bed, conference room and is plated in gold.
3. Boeing 747-8i VIP – $403 Million
Although no private individuals operate a 747-8i VIP, several 747-8i VIPs do exist, but as charter aircraft. Despite this, the 747-8i VIP is one of the most luxurious and most expensive private jets on the planet!
Just as with the other BBJ aircraft, the 747-8i VIP is just a converted 747 airliner. Also just with other BBJ aircraft, the 747-8i VIP is configured with large conference rooms, lavatories, bedrooms, entertainment areas and dining areas.
Most 747-8is are also covered in gold, silk and satin to make the 747-8i VIP extra luxurious (and also factors into its large price tag). Most of the 747-8i VIPs have better entertainment systems than most other business jets.
2. Airbus A380 Custom – $500 Million
Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal’s other private jet is a customized A380. In fact, his A380 was the first A380 that was delivered. It is often cited as one of the most expensive private jets, and the most expensive privately-held jet.
Airlines such as Emirates and British Airways operate the A380 on long range routes. Unlike an A380 that’s being used for commercial service, Prince Al-Waleed has made several alterations.
Just as with most other billionaire private jets, Al-Waleed has covered his private jet in gold. His private jet is equipped with multiple showers, lavatories, conference rooms, bedrooms and entertainment areas.
1. Air Force One – $660 Million
Although Air Force One isn’t technically a private jet (technically it’s a military aircraft) it does have the essence of a private jet. Think about it, it’s an airliner that designed to accommodate one man and his family.
However, this “man” is the head of the free world. As such, his aircraft needs to be big- both in terms of its size and its power. Air Force One has all of the latest technology on board in order to help and protect the president.
All of this technology, however, comes at a price. A very large price. As such, the current Air Force One is worth a staggering $660 million, making it the most expensive private jet in the world.
However, the VC-25B- the current Air Force One’s replacement, will be much more flamboyant. As such, it will dwarf the current $660 million record!
Which are truly the best and most expensive private jets? Tell me in the comments!
